Benchmarking

Introduction

Benchmarking, is a tool of strategic management, that allows the organization to set goals and measure productivity, on the basis of the best industry practices. It is a practice in which quality level is used as a point of reference to evaluate things by making a comparison.

It is concerned with the analysis of three major dimensions:

  • Quality
  • Time
  • Cost

They are Two Types of Benchmarking

Benchmarking Types Process of Benchmarking

Internal Benchmarking:

When measurement and comparison of key operations between teams, groups and individuals are made within the organization, the benchmarking is said to be internal.

External Benchmarking:

When measurement and comparison of key operations are made with the competitors, then, it is called as external benchmarking.

Benchmarking defined five-step process:

  1. Choose a product, service, or internal department to benchmark
  2. Determine which best-in-class companies you should benchmark against – which organizations you’ll compare your business to
  3. Gather information on their internal performance, or metrics
  4. Compare the data from both organizations to identify gaps in your company’s performance
  5. Adopt the processes and policies in place within the best-in-class performers.

Application of Benchmarking

  • Human Resource Management
  • Product Development
  • Product Distribution
  • Maintenance Operations
  • Plant utilisation levels
  • Customer Services

Ans:

Maruti Suzuki CIAZ

Before driving the Ciaz 1.5 diesel, I had my inhibitions about its performance. However, once the motor settled into a relatively quiet idle at around 900rpm, I was surprised to notice that the new unit is a far cry from the clattery and gruff nature of the 1.3-litre DDiS200 motor. Sure, there is some initial diesel clatter, but the engine feels refined once the car starts ambling around.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

It’s April of 2022, and Maruti has launched the updated Ertiga. It’s neither a generation change nor even a proper facelift, but this updated Ertiga gets a tweaked engine and a new gearbox option. Even the cabin gets newer features in line with other Maruti models. And there’s connected car tech added to the mix. Let us take a detailed look at the new and updated Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

  • Lightweight - This has a positive effect on performance and fuel efficiency
  • Cruising capability – The flat ride quality makes it ideal for traversing long distances
  • Easy to drive – Almost feels like piloting a Swift and not a seven-seater MPV
Could be Better
  • Third-row legroom - Tall people in the second row can limit legroom in the last row
  • Interior plastic quality – Feels inconsistent as you start going lower down in the cabin
  • Compact MPV - It is still a smaller MPV when compared to the Innova and Marazzo

Kia Carens

We tested this engine and found that it did the 20-80kmph kickdown in 5.82 seconds and the 40-100kmph kickdown in seven seconds. In comparison, the XL6 with a 1.5-litre NA petrol and four-speed automatic did a 20-80kmph kickdown in 7.54 seconds and 40-100kmph in 9.60 seconds. These test figures for the Carens petrol engine are indicative of useable performance in the mid-range with lots of grunts that will never leave you wanting more punch.
