Analysis & Design of RCC shear walls in the model using ETABS
The etabs file for a G+6 building is provided. Run the analysis and design of the RCC shear walls (shown in the etabs model). The following challenge deals specifically with the shear wall of size 300x1500 at grid A-11 in the structural model.
- Extract values of longitudinal steel ratio, boundary element length, and shear reinforcing ratio from the design results.
- Provide cross-sectional steel arrangement of the shear wall from its base up to the terrace, in compliance with provisions of IS 13920 – 2016. AutoCAD application can be used for this exercise. Alternatively, it can be drawn by hand as well.
- Provide elevation drawings of the reinforcement details of the shear wall from the base up to terrace.
AIM: To provide reinforcement details of the shear wall from base to terrace as per IS 13920-2016.
Procedure:
Step1: Open the file given in the challenge and do an analysis.
Step2: Next we have to open the 3D view in one window.

Step3: Next open the tables in the display tab then a new window will open and select the model participation ratios option.

Step4: Now open the base floor plan and open the reactions tab and select the EQX load case and click ok.

Step5: Now base shear values will appear.
Now we divide the base shear value with the total base shear of the building then we get the % of the shear forces taken by the shear walls. If it is less than 80% then more shear walls are required.

Step6: Now open the tables and open base reactions.

From this we take EQX and EQY to calculate the % shear force taken by the shear walls.
Step7: Now open the elevation at grid 11 and start the design check.

Step8: Now click on display design info and select the pier reinforcement ratios in the design output and click ok. Then Pier reinforcement ratios will appear.

Step9: Now open the pier shear reinforcement ratios, Pier edge/ Boundary zone widths, and check them.

Step10: Next right click on the shear wall and see the design details of the shear wall.

Step11: Reinforcement calculation.

Step12: Cross-section and elevation of shear wall are shown below.

RESULT:
- Designed the longitudinal steel ratio, boundary element length, and shear reinforcing ratio from the design results.
- Provided cross-sectional steel arrangement of the shear wall from its base up to the terrace, in compliance with provisions of IS 13920 – 2016. AutoCAD application can be used for this exercise. Alternatively, it can be drawn by hand as well.
- Provided elevation drawings of the reinforcement details of the shear wall from the base up to the terrace.
