SHEET METAL BOX ASSEMBLY DESIGN USING SIEMENS NX CAD
Objective
The objective of this project is to design a Sheet metal Box Assembly Design using Siemens NX Sheetmetal Workbench.
Introduction
Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or structural steel.
There are many different metals that can be made into sheet metal, such as aluminium, brass, copper, steel, tin, nickel, and titanium.
Sheet metal is used in automobile and truck (lorry) bodies, airplane fuselages and wings, medical tables, roofs for buildings (architecture), and many other applications.
Design Methodology
DESCRIPTION
1. TAB
Creates a base feature by extruding a sketch along a vector by a thickness value or adds material to a plane face.
2. FLANGE
Sheet metal flange features consist of a face and bend connected to an existing face along a straight edge. Flange features are added by selecting one or more edges and specifying a set of options that determine the size and position of the material added.
3. CLOSED CORNER
Closes a corner where two adjacent flanges meet by extending the bends and flanges.
4. FLANGE
Additional flanges are added at the open ends of the side wall.
5. HEM FLANGE
Modifies the model by folding the edge a sheet metal flange over onto itself for the purpose of safe handling or to increase edge stiffness.
6. MIRROR BODY
Copies a body or mirrors it across a plane.
7. UNITE
Combines the volume of two or more bodies into a single body.
8. DIMPLE
Lifts an area of the model inside a sketch that simulates a stamping tool.
9. MIRROR FEATURE
Copies a feature and mirrors it across a plane.
10.UNBEND
Flattens a bend and the material adjacent to the bend.
11. REBEND
Restores an unbend feature to its previous bent state, along with any features added after the unbend feature.
12. BEAD
Lifts material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool.
13. MIRROR FEATURE
Copies a feature and mirrors it across a plane.
14. HEM FLANGE
Hem flange created on the top sharp edges of the box.
15. DATUM PLANE
New plane w.r.t to XY plane of datum coordinate system to an offset of 203 created.
16. TAB
The lid of the box is created on the datum plane by using the tab tool.
17. FLANGE
Flanges are created at the sides of the box lid.
18. TAB
Another tab is created on the side wall of the box.
19. BREAK CORNER
Rounds or Chamfers a sharp corners of a tab or flange.
20. FLANGE
2 additional flanges are created on the Tab created above.
21. HEM FLANGE
Open-loop hem flange created at the corner of the above flange with a sweep angle of 325 degrees.
22. UNBEND
Flattens a bend and the material adjacent to the bend.
23. NORMAL CUTOUT
It cuts the model perpendicular to the sketch.
24. REBEND
Restores an unbend feature to its previous bent state, along with any features added after the unbend feature.
25. MIRROR BODY
Copies a body or mirrors it across a plane.
26. TAB
Create a tab on the top surface of the lid.
27. BREAK CORNER
Rounds a sharp corner of the tab created above.
28. FLANGE
Additional flange added at the corner of the tab created.
29. HEM FLANGE
Open-loop hem flange created at the corner of the above flange with a sweep angle of 325 degrees.
30. UNBEND
Flattens a bend and the material adjacent to the bend.
31. NORMAL CUTOUT
Draw the required sketch and cuts the model perpendicular to the sketch.
32. REBEND
Restores an unbend feature to its previous bent state.
