SHEET METAL ODD SHAPED ENCLOSURE DESIGN USING SIEMENS NX CAD
Objective
The objective of this project is to design a Sheetmetal Odd shaped enclosure design using Siemens NX Sheetmetal Workbench.
Introduction
1) Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or structural steel.
2) There are many different metals that can be made into sheet metal, such as aluminium, brass, copper, steel, tin, nickel, and titanium.
3) Sheet metal is used in automobile and truck (lorry) bodies, airplane fuselages and wings, medical tables, roofs for buildings (architecture), and many other applications.
4) NX Sheet metal application has advanced features that can quickly convert solid models to sheet metal components, and create sheet metal parts that enclose other components. These advanced features create a sheet metal model from a generic solid body by ripping edges, cleaning up geometry, and converting to a sheet metal body.
Design Methodology
DESCRIPTION
1. SKETCH
It is the 2D representation of the model with respect to the plane/view.
2. EXTRUDE
Creates a 3D solid from an object that encloses an area, or a 3D surface from an object with open ends.
3. SHEET METAL FROM SOLID
Builds a sheet metal model that takes its shape from a collection of planar faces. After using this feature the solid body will be converted into sheet metal.
4. FLANGE
Sheet metal flange features consist of a face and bend connected to an existing face along a straight edge. Flange features are added by selecting one or more edges and specifying a set of options that determine the size and position of the material added.
5. JOG
Modifies the model by lifting material on one side of a sketch line, adding a flange between the two sides.
6. UNBEND
Flattens a bend and the material adjacent to the bend.
7. BEAD
Lifts material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool.
8. HOLE
Adds a hole to one or more solid bodies in a part or assembly.
9. REBEND
Restores an unbend feature to its previous bent state, along with any features added after the unbend feature.
10. FLAT PATTERN
Flat Pattern tool is used to automatically create a flattened version of a sheet metal part and prepare the model for manufacture. The Flat Pattern feature remains the last feature in the Model tree and maintains the flat model view.

DRAFTING
Drafting is a term that refers to creating technical drawings that communicate how something is constructed or functions.
