Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

                                                                                    BOX ASSEMBLY

Objective:

To design the Sheet Metal Box Assembly Using Siemens NX Metal Application.

Introduction:

Sheet Metal is formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fudemental forms used in metalworking and it can be cut and bend into a variety of shaps. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm(0.25in) are considered plate steel or "structural steel".

Approch:

Sketch the shape of base then add feature tab. Now add feature such as flange, hem.

After that mirror the body and unite them.

Now add dimple, hem, and beads to the model

Now create lid of the box using tab, flages, dimple and hem.

                                                                                        Create flat pattern.

Descripion of tools:

Tab is the command to create a base feature by extruding a sketch along a vector bt a thickness values or by adding material to existing

faces and bend regions of a sheet metal parts.

Normal Cutout is a command to cut material by projecting a sketch onto the model and then cutting perpendicular to the surfaces intersected by the projection.

Flanges is the command to add a flat flange at an angle to a plane face and add a bend between the two. A flange consist of a bend region and a web.

Break Corner is a command to round or chamfer sharp corners of a tab or flanges.

Dimple is a command to lift an area of model inside a sketch that simulates a stamping tool. You can create an indentation in a sheet metal part using a sketch section as a dimple outline.

Bead is a command to lift material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool. Beads can also be created to stiffen sheet metal parts.

Unbend is a command used to flatten the sheet metal with respect to one flat tab or surface.

Rebend is a command used to bring back the flatten sheet to its original shape.

Closed Corner is a command to modify two flanges in one operation and to close the corner where two flanges meet. During flattening the corner and the relief geometry are made appropriate for flat pattern.

Hem Flange is a command to modify an edge of a sheet metal part by folding it onto itself for the purpose of safe handling or to increase edge stiffness.

Conclusion:
The Casing design exercise have given me a brief idea about NX sheet metal design application and its various feeature of sheet metal design for industrial purpose.
