Title of the project : Casing Design
Objective : Design a sheet metal casing using NX sheet metal applcation
Introduction : To start designing in NX CAD, we first set all the global parameters : material thickness, bend radius, relief depth, relief width to 1mm and henceforth the sheetmetal parameters are set to 1mm as default for any further steps undertaken unless given any change. Now the sheetmetal can be designed as per the requirements using the feature commands.
Description :
1) After setting the global parameters, select sketch command and draw a rectangular sketch on the plane and use the tab feature to create a base.
2) Select sketch command and draw another rectangle on the base plane and use normal cutout command to cut the base feature using the sketch.
3) Draw two horizontal lines using sketch on base plane and use bend command to bend the sheetmetal base plane at 90 degree angle.
4) Select flange command to create flanges on the 4 edges of sheetmetal as shown.
5) Select break corner command to create fillet of 1mm radius on the edges of flanges created.
6) Unbend the structure using unbend command, select unbend command and selct the base plane with respect to which the part will be unbend and then click on the bend radius, repeat the steps to unbend it completely.
7) Sketch 4 pts. at the requred dimensions and using Screw clearance hole feature make M2 holes on the points.
8) Draw the sketch of desired shape and dimensions using the necessary sketching commands on the base plane to be stamped . Select dimple feature and click in the drawn sketch to stamp the impressions of the sketch on the sheet metal.
9) Draw a circles using sketch feature at the required points and select bead command to stamp impressions along the sketch contours on the sheet metal base.
10) Use mirror feature twice to create the bead feature symmetric to the datum planes at 4 places.
11) Rebend the part in the reverse order of unbending using rebend feature.
12) Select flat pattern feature select the central flat face and the flat pattern view can be seen in the model view.
Conclusion : The sheet metal is obtained as per the design requirements.
