Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad - Casing Design

TITLE OF THE PROJECT:- SHEET-METAL CASING

OBJECTIVE:- To Create Sheet-Metal Casing using NX CAD

INTRODUCTION:- This is simple design of casing made of sheet metal which will be used to cover which will protect the component from surrounding.

DESIGN METHODOLOGY:-

  1. Creation of TAB
  2. Normal cutout
  3. Bend
  4. Creation of Flanges
  5. Unbend
  6. Creation of Hole
  7. Creation of Dimple
  8. Creation of Bead
  9. Rebend

DESCRIPTION:-

  1. The very first step is to create tab for which we have created a sketch in which a centered rectangle is draw of dimensions (50mm*60mm).
  2. Draw another rectangle which is symmetric to x-axis and coincident with one edge of tab.
  3. Perform Noraml cutout with the rectangle we have drawn.
  4. Sketch two symmetric line which are 10mm apart from edge of the tab.
  5. Bend the tab about the symmetric line we just drawn.
  6. Now add flanges of 5mm to all four corner edges of bend rectangle.
  7. Add break corner to the sharpe edges of flanges.
  8. Unbend the component.
  9. Create hole on all edges of flange by making one hole on one flange and mirrior hole using datum planes.
  10. Now a the centre of tab we create a regular pattern of dimension 5mm and convert that pattern into spline.
  11. Use this pattern and form dimple.
  12. Sketch a circle of 5mm diameter and perform bead.
  13. Pattern this bead to all corner using datum plane.
  14. Now rebend the pattern.
  15. Like this we get our Sheet-Metal Casing.

CONCLUSION:-

This project gives us a clear perspective of how an approach should be taken to create any sheet-metal componet. And also good use of flange and dimple has been done in this project.
