Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX CAD - Casing Design
Title: Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX CAD-Casing Design
Objective: To design a Sheet metal casing using Siemens NX CAD application.
Introduction:
Sheet metal: The metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces known as sheet metal. Sheet Metal parts are manufactured from a single sheet of metal the part must maintain a uniform wall thickness. Sheet metal parts with a minimum of 0.9mm to 20mm in thickness can be manufactured.
NX CAD: NX, formerly known as "unigraphics", is an advanced high-end CAD/CAM/CAE, which has been owned since 2007 by Siemens PLM Software.
Design methodology:

Description:
- Sketch: The profiles that need to be drawn for featuring are done in sketch command. It is a 2D representation.
- Tab: It is a feature to create a base.
- Normal cutout: It is a feature used to cut the sheet metal at reqiured profile normally.
- Bend: It is used to bend the sheet metal at required positions.
- Flange: It is used to bend the metal at required angles to make flanges.
- Breaking corners: It is used to make round corners instead of sharp ones.
- Unbend: It is used to unbend the bended corners.
- Holes: It is used to make holes on sheet metal.
- Dimple: It is used to make embedded type of features of required profiles either in or out.|
- Studio spline: It is a sketch tool used to make a curve by taking reference points.
- Move curve: It is used to move the curve at required position from original psoition.
- Symmetric: It is a tool for 2D profiles to make symmetric feature by specifying reference planes.
- Bead: It is used to give strength to sheet metal.
- Mirror feature: It is used to mirror the feature exactly opposite by taking reference planes.
- Rebending: It is used to rende the unbended feature.
- Flat pattern: It is used to make the sheet metal into a flat pattern.
