Course Overview

Engineers across various industries use MATLAB for research, analysis, simulations, and the development of models for real-world systems. As it has a wide range of applications, it is an essential software tool for engineers striving to work in core industry jobs.

By taking this course, you will learn about the fundamental MATLAB concepts such as variables, data types, loops, and condition statements. You will also learn the basics of writing a MATLAB script, visualizing data in 2D and 3D graphical forms, and the underpinning mathematical operations. This course has a project that requires the development of new algorithms and models in the MATLAB environment. By the end of this course, you will have an established hands-on understanding of working with the MATLAB UI according to industry standards.

Who can enrol in this course?

Students, graduates, and working professionals can take this course.

Course Syllabus

On a daily basis we talk to companies in the likes of Tata Elxsi and Mahindra to fine tune our curriculum.

Week 1 - Language Fundamentals and Programming

The MATLAB programming language involves elements such as arithmetic values, array indexing, data types, and variables. These are fundamental for learning the advanced concepts in MATLAB. It is therefore important for learners to understand these basics in order to develop programs.

In this week, you will learn about

  • Workspace
  • Variables
  • Data Types
  • Loops and Conditional Statements
  • Inputs and Outputs
  • Loading and Saving Data

Week 2 - Programming and Graphics

MATLAB program files with commands and function calls are known as scripts. These program files can be written to visualize data in 2D and 3D graphical forms as well. As writing MATLAB codes and visualizing the data are essential to research and developments in the industry, it is important for learners to know the basics of writing scripts.

In this week, you will learn about

  • Scripts and Functions
  • Programming Utilities
  • Debugging
  • 2D and 3D Plots
  • Formatting and Annotation
  • Printing and Saving

Week 3 - Mathematics

Mathematical operations underlie the analysis of data, model development, algorithm writing, and more on MATLAB. Moreover, MATLAB is based on numerical computations required to solve problems, model systems, and simulations. This makes it imperative for learners to understand the basic underlying mathematics.

In this week, you will learn about

  • Elementary Math
  • Linear Algebra
  • Interpolation
  • Optimization
  • Numerical Integration

Industry Projects

Our projects are designed by experts in the industry to reflect industry standards. By working through our projects, Learners will gain a practical understanding of what they will take on at a larger-scale in the industry. In total, there are 1 Projects that are available in this program.

Traveling Salesman Problem using MATLAB

You will get to work on a traveling salesman problem with 20 stations to visit in the city using the x and y coordinates generated using the “rand” function (range 0-100km). The sequence that leads to the smallest cost function will be the optimal solution. At the end of this project, you will have to deliver a MATLAB script that solves and plots the solutions and individual plots (one for each solution in “.jpeg” format).
