Course Overview
- This course mainly focuses on the basic concepts of geometric design and their implementation in the software, generally used for road design in the practical world.
- Upon taking up this course, students will get clarity on the basic concepts of geometric design of roads and will also gain basic knowledge of the software used.
- The students will learn the basics of Civil 3D, an industry-relevant software.

Week 04 - Sight Distance
- In this week, the following topics will be covered:
- Sight distance
- Reasons for providing sight distance
- Various types of sight distance
- Calculation of sight distance
Week 05 - Horizontal Alignment
- In this week, the following topics will be covered:
- Horizontal alignment
- Minimum and maximum radius values for various roads
- Superelevation
- Methods of attaining superelevation
- Transition curve and method of calculation of transition curve
- Extra widening and setback distance
Week 06 - Vertical Alignment
- In this week, the following topics will be covered:
- Gradient
- Calculating the gradient

- Design criteria for summit and valley curves
