Challenge

Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 5 & 6 Challenge

Q.1

Aim: Route the following harness layout in Electrical workbench. Make assumption for harness bundle diameters. Use the connectors provided. After completion of routing,

  1. Check the bundle Continuity. Add snap of result in submission
  2. Add annotation to all connectors. Make an assumption for annotations like connect 1, 2 etc
  3. Check for the bundle warning. Add snap.
  4. Generate CAT.part of harness assembly and convert is in .igs format.

Wiring Harness

The wiring harness is the combination of electrical cables, or assembly of wires, that connects all electrical and electronic (E/E) components in the automotive vehicle, like sensors, electronic control units, batteries, and actuators. The wiring harness handles the energy and information flow within the E/E system to fulfil primary car functions, such as steering and braking as well as secondary car functions, such as ventilation and entertainment.

Connector

Components of an electrical circuit are electrically connected if an electrical current can run between them through an electrical conductor. An electrical connector is an electromechanical device used to create an electrical connection between parts of an electrical circuit, or between different electrical circuits, thereby joining them into a larger circuit.

Step 1: Define all the connectors electrically.

Step 2: Create Harness A and Harness B Base cat.part file as provided in the figure.

Step 3: Create assembly for Harness A and Harness B.

Step 4: Place all the connectors on their desired location as mentioned in figure.

Step 5: Define geometric bundle and connect connectors as mentioned in figure.

Step 6: Create combined product file for Harness A and Harness B and connect the connectors.

Step 7: Provide annotations and name the connectors properly.

Step 8: Check for Bundle Continuity Check.

Step 9: Convert the product file into .igs and save it.
