Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 5 & 6 Challenge

Objective: To create an assembly of wiring harness layout using the Electrical Workbench in CATIA V5

Procedure:

  1. Create a product and add the necessary electrically defined components to a product.
  2. Convert the product to an electrical assembly using the ‘Geometrical Bundle’ command.
  3. Position the components to their position as per the input locations given.
  4. Create routing using the ‘Multi-Branchable Document’ command. For routing select the appropriate diameter. Define the route by clicking on the two components as required.
  5. Connect two assemblies using the ‘Connect Electrical Devices’ command in the Electrical Assembly Workbench.
  6. Provide annotations to the connectors using the ‘Flag Notes with Leader’ command in the Mechanical Assembly Design Workbench.
  7. Check for Bundle Connectivity in the Edit>>Search>>Electrical>>Bundle>>Fully Connected.
  8. Ensure that no warnings are shown for the bundle segments designed in the Multi-Branchable.

Results:

Electrically Defined Connectors:

Connector Catalogue:

Harness A:

Harness B:

Interconnection:

Bundle Continuity Check:

Bundle Warning Check:

Warning Solved by adjusting the connector location.

No Yellow Exclamation Mark.

CAT_Part File and IGS:

Later use 'Save as' to convert it into an IGS file.

Conclusion:

Hence, we have successfully created an assembly of two wiring harnesses using Electrical Workbench in the CATIA V5.
