Challenge

Week 9- Unsteady moving zones Approach

Aim

  1. Simulate the motion of blades in a generic turbomachinery component using an unsteady approach.
    1. Assume blade rotation at 300rpm
    2. Choose an appropriate time step for the simulation and generate an animation file for the rotation

Setup

  • Pressure based
  • Transient
  • In the cell zone conditions mesh motion is enabled for rotating frame
  • And in the boundary conditions airfoil wall is set to moving wall relative to adjacent cell
  • the time step is calculated in such a way that it completes one rotation in 1000 iterations, since our objective is to input 300 rpm , then the time required to simulate the solution would be 60/300, which is 0.2, so to complete the simulation in 100 iterations , the value for time step would be 0.0002
  • All other settings are are the same as of steady state simulation
  • Animation is turned on for static pressure contour and velocity contour

Outputs

Conclusion

  • Simulation is run in transient mode with mesh motion enabled
  • Appropriate time step is calculated
  • Animation file for presure and velocity is obtained
