Challenge

Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge

AIM:

Perform the Explicit Dynamics on the given Specimen to know the behaviour of specimen under the Tension and Torsion Test Using AnsysWorkbench.

OBJECTIVE:

*For the tension test, displace one end of the specimen to 18mm while keeping the other fixed.

*For the torsion test, you will need to displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree. To Find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen.

GIVEN SPECIMEN:

PROCEDURE:

Assign the material as steel-1006 for both the cases by, Selecting the Engineering data >> Edit >> Engineering data sources >> Explicit Materials >>steel-1006.

*Properties of the steel-1006 is shown in below.

  • After assigning the materials to ansys then import the geometry into project.
  • Edit the gemotery in spaceclaim if any modifications needed.
  • Open gemetry in mechanical moduler to start the analysis process.

CASE-1

*TENSILE TEST:

  • Assign material steel-1006 to the specimen to start the process.
  • Create the two cartesian co-ordinate systems to generate the mesh on the specimen.

Co-Ordinate Systems:

MESH:

Mesh-Parameters:

Fixed Support and Displacement:

*Fixed support at one end and assign displacement of 18 mm in negative X-Axis.

Analysis Settings:

User Defined Results:

*Once Analyis completed then open Work Sheet Results to define Number of user defined results in this case we defined TeperatureAll.

RESULTS:

EQUIVALENT (VON-MISES) STRESS (Mpa) :

MAX: 640.49 and MIN: 0

TOTAL DEFORMATION (mm) :

MAX: 18.002 and MIN:0

TEMPERATURE (Celcius) :

MAX: 299.22 and MIN: 22

CASE-2

TORSION TEST:

  • Assign material steel-1006 to the specimen to start the process.
  • Create the two cartesian co-ordinate systems and one Cylindrical Co-ordinate system to generate the mesh on the specimen.

Co-Ordinate Systems:

MESH:

Mesh Parameters:

Fixed Support and Displacement:

*Assign the fixed support at one and displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree.

RESULTS:

EQUIVALENT (VON-MISES) STRESS (Mpa) :

MAX: 644.4 and MIN: 0

TOTAL DEFORMATION (mm) :

MAX: 13.241 and MIN: 0

TEMPERATURE (Celcius) :

MAX:455.52 and MIN: 21.993
