Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Aim - To perform both torsion and tension test on the given specimen and inspect the change in stress and temperature change.
Procedure -
1. We will add STEEL 1006 – EXPLICIT MATERIAL from the engineering data source
2. Then we will open mechanical model and add explicit material to the model.
3. Then we will add patch conforming method to whole rod and give element size as 3mm.
4. Then we will insert face sizing to to the face in middle and give approprite size to them by creating sphere of influences and co-ordinate systems.
5. Then for tension test we will fix one face and give displacement to other CSA. Whereas for torsion test we will create a cylindrical co-ordinate system and give displacemet then to the rotatory axis for 1200 degress.
Result and conclusion:
Max stress for torsion test : 575.53 MPa
Max Deformation : Not important, its dorfmation of small particles coming out.
Max Stress for Tension test : 636.32 MPa
Max Deformation : 18.005 mm.
In my simulations, i concluded max stress is produced in Tension but its wage to compare stress in these two different types of simulation because stress are mainly acting on different planes in both these cases.
