Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

Engineering features for door applique

The door applique of class A surface is given and we need to attach then heat stakes amd locaters

firstly we need to create the Tooling Axis, class B and class C surface from the class A door applique

creation of Tooling axis

  • for creating the tooling axis for the class A surface it must consider the some rules
  • It must and should clear all the surfaces in core and cavity
  • we need to select the flat surface from class A and extract it and create the tooling axis with normal to surfcae
  • perform the draft anaylsis on class A and check the whether it clearing or not
  • if not clearing create the tooling axis with bisecting method and check it
  • As for the door trim it is clearing in normal to surface

Draft analysis for class A and tooling axis

Creation of Class B

  • At first we need to offset the given class A surface for the 2.5mm
  • As we know the it will create patches in between the Class B surface
  • so we need to fill the patches by extrapolite the adjcent side of the patches and trim to form the single surface
  • After fill all patches apply the fillets on the class b surface where ever requried

Class B surface

creation of C surface

  • class C surface is in between the class A and Class B surfaces it used to join the class B and Class A
  • for creating class C we use sweep tool with normal to surface or with tooling direction based on the requriment
  • give the direction, draft angle , length based on the given class A

Class C surface

After that we need to join the Class A and Class B then trim with the Class C to form A closed surface

create a closed part the perform the draft analysis of the compenet

closed surface

Draft analysis of final component

creation of heat stakes and locaters

  • Heat stakes is generally plastic welding where it is a method of joining of two or more parts
  • Locaters are the used to specify the space in three dimensional object with 12 degree of fredom

These locaters are two types

  • 2-way locater(it arrest in 2 degree of fredom by single rib)
  • 4-way locater(it arrest the 4 degree of fredom by 2 ribs)

we want to foloow some desgin considerations for creating loacters and heat stakes

  • loacters are intersect first then hesat stakes
  • heat stakes should have less height than the loacter
  • for fixing locaters should fix first then heat stakes
  • if should not have sharpe edges and have some curve surface

4-way loacter and heat stakes

After creating the locaters and heat stakes it should assemble with fianl compeng and perform draft analysis
