Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features

DRAFT ANALYSIS FOR THE GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE:

Conclusion:

From the draft analysis, it is evident that the given class A surface draft is more than 3 degree to the selected tooling axis. Hence it is feasible to manufacture.

DRAFT ANALYSIS FOR THE GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE_NORMAL TO TOOLING AXIS:

Same draft analysis image of class A surface normal to tooling axis.

It is all green(draft more than 3 degree).

Conclusion for Draft Analysis on final plastic part:

From the draft analysis, it is evident that the final plastic components draft is more than 3 degree to the selected tooling axis. Hence it is feasible to manufacture.

Notes:

1) For callout 1, (Class C created with draft angle), i have 3 degrees angle with respect to tooling axis.

Since the draft pointer showed the angle as 2.9 degree, i changed the draft analysis to 2.9 degrees.

2) For callout 2, I used reference surface sweep and trimmed it with other class c surface. In analysis it is showing as blue region.I tried different angles, but while doing i failed to create final class C surface.

2) TOOLING AXIS:

For XY surface, i created a main tooling axis.

I used the walls to create a bisecting line and used it as main tooling axis.

HEAT STAKES AND LOCATORS:

a) 4- WAY LOCATOR:

Two 4-way locators are created for arresting the degress of freedom.

Design procedures followed for the 4-way locators are similar to rib.

Thickness 40% of the part thickness.

Draft of 0.5 degree.

Maintained same height for both the locators.

b) RIBS

RIBS are created for strengthing the door trim.

RIB Design procedures are followed.

Thickness 40% of the part thickness.

Draft of 0.5 degree.

Maintained same height for both the locators.

Rib tooth thickness =.75mm

Height = 5 times part thickness.

c) HEAT STAKES

16 Heat stakes are created, following design principles.

Draft of .5 degree is provided for the heat stakes boss.
