Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Applique Design with Engineering Features
Aim –
Creation of B-Side features Heat Stakes and Locators for Fixation of Door Applique.

Heat Stakes:

Heat Stakes –
These are the features which we will have to make for connecting the part with the rest of the components,it may be another parts or fixation plane or etc.
The same reason is there for the rest of the components (Bosses, Dog Houses etc.)
However heat staking is a process which requires none of these, it has direct fixation with the part with the help of HEAT.
Heat stakes are normal bushes which are created at the places where we need them to be fixed, and when the time comes, there will be HEATED tips which will be melting these heat stakes, and this will create a Head like shape, fixing the parts together.
This saves time and extra work. While making the parts for production.
Locators –
The basic function of the locator is to guide the child component (the one which we need to fix) to the parent component (the one where the child component will be fixed). There are 2 types of locators, 4 – Way and 2 Way. These locators are placed in such a way that it follows the 3-2-1 locating principle.
3-2-1 Principle is the principle which restricts the DOF (Degrees of Freedom) which basically means motion/movement of the component.
There are a total 12 Types of degrees of freedom of a particular component.

So to fix this we have 3-2-1 principle which restricts a total of 11 Degrees of Freedom.
