Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Applique Design with Engineering Features

Door Applique design

Heat stakes are generally required for any plastic material. The melting of plastic under pressure is a staking process.

It is an assembly process where the assembly is done through melting. While melting the material it gets locked. Here Four-way locators and two-way locators are created along with the heat stakes for the door applique.

creation of tooling axis:

extract the door attachment and create a point on it. Draw the line at that point.

To arrest all the degrees of freedom we need locators and heat stakes.

The applique should be fixed in that direction so in that direction the degree of freedom is arrested. Another side the locators and heat stakes are created to arrest the degrees of freedom.

Locators are created using the design rules. Draw the sketch and extrude with a thickness of 1.3mm.

Give the required draft angle of 0.5 degrees and give the fillets also.

copy the part body and paste it and make a translation along the x and z-axis.

after creating four-way locators four directions are locked so another two-way locator is required. Draw a line and extrude it giving the thickness value of 1.3mm and give the draft also.

Translation in X Y and Z are arrested and rotational degree is also arrested. Now the remaining X+ and X- degrees are arrested using heat stakes.

To create the points extract the boundary and make a parallel curve.

create a point and using repetition create multiple points on the parallel curve.

Draw the sketch and extrude them and give the min draft required.

make a point-point translation along the points created.

Make locators and heat stakes union trim with the applique.

To get the part clearance the holes are created on the door attachment.

The hole diameter should be just more than the locators and heat stake diameter.

For locators, as the draft is given 15-0.3=14.7mm is required.

For heat stakes, the minimum gap per side is 0.5. So 7+(0.5*2)=8mm is required.

Copy the sketch of the locator and paste it using paste special and paste using the link. New part body is created. Draw a circle with 14.7mm diameter and extrude and give the draft.

remove the extrude from the door attachment to get the part clearance.

Similarly, it is done for all the locators and heat stakes.
