Week 9 - FVM Literature Review

1. Finite Volume method:

FVM is similar to Finite Difference method, its only that in this method adjesent volume is taken under consideration, volume in which all our characteristics are preserved, By this method we donot have make assumtion regarding area and by integrating the govering equation throughout the area we can specify the actual flow of quantities acordinglly

2. Major draw back of FDM was it cant be used as it is when the grids were not align, so many different variables were to be taken under consideration while using FDM in such situations. on the other hand in FVM as we cosider volume it is more relaible and effective, as we only consider a point in FDM the grids are very importantm. This is the major diff. between FDM and FVM

3.Interpolation Schemes

Interpolation schemes are used while find the temprature in adjesent faces in considered volume,

As in governing equation if theres a temprature base term i.e. a defusivity term or any other temprature base term, the we need to detemine the temprature at that point of volume so we need a interpolation scheme to determine that

4. Flux limiter

Flux limiter can be defined as the tolerance to avoid the calculation to go out of path i.e. in a shock flow sommetimes there may be a big turbulance flow which can disturb the calculation for flux terms in FVM, which can lead to unexpected outputs so flux limiter is defined to simulate tolerance for flux turm to discretise
