Week 9-Creation of 1D Connectors Challenge
Week 9-Creation of 1D Connectors
Aim
To create connectors and attach the various components of the given model.
Process:
- Creating a 2D mesh for the given model after removing geometry errors.
- Connecting the different components using the specified connector types.
i. 2D mesh:
Geometric errors in the given model were corrected before creating a 2D mesh on the surface.

A mesh was created over the entire model using the given quality parameters ensuring that no elements failed for quality.

ii. Connections
1. Right_Rail_2 & Front truss_1:- Seam-Quad(angled+capped+L)
2D`rarr`connectors`rarr`seam`rarr`type=seam-quad(angled+capped+L) was selected to create a seam weld between the two surfaces.

2. Left_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Quad elements
2D`rarr`connectors`rarr`seam`rarr`type=quads option was selected and the node path followed by the components to connect were also selected to create a quad connection between the surfaces.

3. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Right_Rail_1:- Spot weld with 3 Layers and 5 mm Diameter
Spot welding is a type of electric resistance welding used to weld various sheet metal products, through a process in which contacting metal surface points are joined by the heat obtained from resistance to electric current.
The spot option under connectors was selected first. And changes such as num layers and diameter were changed according to the specified values.

4. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Left_Rail_1:- Hexa (Adhesive)
The 2D`rarr`connectors`rarr`seam`rarr`type=hexa(adhesive) option was chosen. The number of strips was changed to 3 and the number of coats to 4. The width was changed to 3 units.

5. Rear_truss_2 & Right_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector
The 2D`rarr`connectors`rarr`bolt option was used to create a bolt connector between Rear_truss_2 and Right_rail_2. The "create hole, if none" option was selected since there wasn't any hole in the geometry.
The type of bolt used was bolt(general).

6. Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector
The same process used to connect components Rear_truss_2 and Right_Rail_2 was used again to connect Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2.
Two bolt connectors were created in both instances.

7. Right_Rail_1 & Right_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Rigid Elements
Spot weld connectors which were of the "rigid" type were used to connect components Right_Rail_1 and Right_Rail_2

8. Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Spring Elements
Spotweld 'Spring' type was used in the connection of components Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2.

9. Join the rest of the components with their suitable connectors
Rigid type seam connectors were used to connect the remaining unconnected components.
