THEORY: Geometric entities that define connections between other entities
• Used for welding, bolts, adhesives, etc.
• Link geometry or FE entities
• Can be “realized” into FE representations of welds, etc. for any supported solver
• rigids, CWELDs, MAT100s, ACMs, etc.

Connectors allow for easy and rapid:
• Creation of FE welds, bolts, adhesives, etc.

MODEL:

PROCEDURE:

STEP1: Import the model into the graphical area.

STEP2: Perform geometry cleanup on the component if necessary.

STEP3: Mesh each component with given element size separately and make sure the mesh flow is proper.

STEP4: Make sure it follows the given quality criteria.

STEP5: Then we are ready for connecting them with different connectors.

1. Right_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Seam-Quad(angled+capped+L)

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-seam

STEP3: Select the nodes of one component by path and select both components

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units and spacing as 5 units.

STEP5:Select the weld type-Seam-Quad(angled+capped+L)

STEP6: Specify weld angle as 60 or 45 degrees and click create.

2. Left_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Quad elements

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-seam

STEP3: Select the nodes of one component by path and select both components

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units and spacing as 5 units.

STEP5:Select the weld type-Quad

STEP6: Specify weld angle as 60 or 45 degrees and click create.

3. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Right_Rail_1:- Spot weld with 2 Layers and 5 mm Diameter

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-spot

STEP3: Select the nodes of one component by path and selectall three components

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units and diameter as 5mm.

STEP5:Select the type-weld and layer is set as three.

4. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Left_Rail_1:- Hexa (Adhesive)

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-seam

STEP3: Select th nodes of one component by path and select both(top and middle) components

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units and spacing as 5 units.

STEP5:Select the weld type-hexa-adhesive

STEP6: Specify strips, coats and width as 1unit and click create

STEP7: Similarly select middle and bottom component and follow the same procedure.

5. Rear_truss_2 & Right_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-bolt

STEP3: Specify the bolt location and select two single nodes at a certain distance.

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units.

STEP5:Select the weld type-bolt(general)

STEP6: Select the option to create a hole

6. Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-bolt

STEP3: Specify the bolt location and select two single nodes at a certain distance.

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units.

STEP5:Select the weld type-bolt(CBAR)

STEP6: Select the option to create a hole

7. Right_Rail_1 & Right_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Rigid Elements

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-spot-type-rigid

STEP3: Select the nodes of one component by path and select all components

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units.

STEP6: Specify the diameter and number of layers as 2 and click create.

8. Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Spring Elements

STEP1: Hide all components except required.

STEP2:Go to 2d-connectors-spot-type-spring

STEP3: Select the nodes of one component by path and select all components

STEP4: Set the tolerance as 10units.

STEP6: Specify the diameter and number of layers as 2 and click create.

CONCLUSION: All the connectors were successfully established and realised.

*Rest of the components were connected with suitable connectors.

*Elements failed before the connections were made was zero and after connectors were made some elements were failing.
