Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

BASE BRACKET DESIGN:

GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE:

TOOLING AXIS:

A point is created at the center of the middle hole of the given surface.

A dummy tooling axis is created along the point.

A new plane is created along the dummy tooling axis and y axis with reference to the point.

The given class A surface is intersected along the new plane.

Two lines are created along the outer slant lines of both the ribs.

Those lines are bisected to create the tooling axis.

CLASS A SURFACE DRAFT ANALYSIS:

CLASS B SURFACE CREATION:

The three surfaces of a rib in the class a surface is extracted.

The extracted surfaces are untrimmed to get thier original forms.

They are extrapolated till the all intersect each other.

They are then trimmed with each other.

The formed rib is offseted for 2.5mm to form a new rib.

Same steps are followed for the other rib too.

The original rib surface is hidden leaving the newly formed surfaces to work on.

Base Surface is extracted, offseted and extrapolated.

Same is done with the bottom surface too.

The unnecessary surfaced are trimmed away.

Fillets are added and the CLASS B SURFACE is created.

CLASS C SURFACE CREATION:

Boundary of the class A surface is obtained using the boundary command.

It is then swept with draft direction with a draft angle of 3 degrees to get the class C surface.

Class B and Class C surfaces are trimmed and a close body is formed using close surface command.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

Draft analysis on the solid part resulted in green, blue regions.

The green region shows the part which is toolable or produceable by the molding machine and the draft angle is 3degree.

Blue color region states that the part can be allowed in some OEMs but still need to be improved for the other OEMs as the draft angle is more than 3 degrees.

Red color which is not there in this case states that the draft angle is less than 3 degree and cannot be produced or if produced would be faulty.
