Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

TOOLING AXIS

Its the direction in which the mold or the cavity opens up this axis is called as the tooling axis.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Draft analysis checks if the model is maintaining the minimum draft degree.

CLASS B SURFACE

Created by extracting each walls, untrimming it, extrapolating and trimming the excess and offset it to the required thickness.

CLASS C

Creating the surface using the sweep option by using the boundaries along the tooling axis.

Step 1

Check the connectivity of the Class A Surface, then analyse visually and make a dummy tooling axis with the normal line method step of point and direction.

Step 2

Now we gotta check for any clearences and check for any problematic area, this was done with the help of intersection with the help of the plane created using the model.

Now two lines were constructed at the inclined walls and later bisceted with the point helping us get the main tooling axis along the x&y direction

Step 3

Once the Main Tooling axis is determined we contineud with the draft analysis. Draft analysis is done to check the minimum draft of 3 deg is mainted or not.

We use the compass to define the draft direction , we drag it and place it on the tooling axis , now if the minimum draft angle is mainted then the entire model turns green if its blue than we can use the inverse key and change it.

Step 4

We next created the Class B Surface by extracting each walls, untrimming it, extrapolating and trimming the excess then we offset to the required thickness of 2.5.

Step 5

Creating the surface using the sweep option by using the boundaries along the tooling axis

Step 6

Then we proceeded with the final trim using the Class B&C surface once the trim is finalized we jump to the product workbench and Make a Closed Surface using the close surface feature.
