Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation (Ribs & Screw Boss) - Challenge 1

Ribs:-

Ribs provide a meana to economical stiffness and strength in molded parts without increasing overall wall thickness.

Design rules for ribs have been followed to create.

1.draft 0.5 degree per side

2.thickness - typically 40% thickness

  • 3mm thickness
  • 40% of 3mm = 1.2 mm thickness given to ribs.

3.Height <= 5x wall thickness.

  • Rib height =15mm

4.minimum radii used 0.25mm

Screw boss:-

Bosses are projections designed to accept inserts, self-tapping screws, etc. for use in mounting, fastening or assembling parts.

Design rules

1.as diameter of hole is given as 5.2 mm

2.wall thickness (w)

W=0.6t

W= 0.6 × 3= 1.8 mm

3.Draft of 0.5 degree is given to screw bosses.

4.radiis of 0.25mm is given to the screw bosses.

Draft analysis is done on the final product with ribs and screw bosses.
