Challenge

Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation (Ribs & Screw Boss) - Challenge 1

Aim -

Create the rib for the Drill Handle considering the design rules

Create the Screw boss for the Drill Handle considering the design rules

Objective -

  • A detailed report should be done explaining the draft analysis and the tooling axis creation.
  • An explanation should be given on the way of creating the tooling axis, particularly the Bisecting method.

Procedure -

1. Analyse the given Class a Surface for irregulatiry and patches by using bondary command

2. Then create a tooling axis by using bisecting method -

Analyse which surfae is complicated to produce and then create a section over there. After that creating a two line from two points and then finaly create a bisecting line to those two lines. Which is nothing but a tooling axis.

3. Draft Analysis -

Then by using this tooling axis we do the draft analysis on class A surface.

We set the range for draft angle 0.5 degree. Means if the draft angle is zero then it shows red colour, If draft angle is in between 0 to 0.5 degree it shows sky blue colour, If draft angle is more than 0.5 degree then it shows green colour.

4. Then create a Class B surface -

By offesetting class A surface to 2.5mm (which is thickness of part) and fill the patches which is created during offset.

5. Then create class C Surface -

By using Seep command we created and whith respect to Class A surface edges.

Then finaly trim class C surface and Class B surface to join and trimm extra portion.

6. Then finaly join class A,B and C surface to form a close surface.

7. Then create a solid body by using close surface command.

8. Creating Ribs -

Design Consideration for ribs

Thickness = Thickness of rib is 0.4*t ; t = thickness of part.

Draft angle = 0.5 degree on each side

Height = Hieght of the rib is 5*t or 5 times of part thickness

Rib thickness at top is greater than 0.75 mm.

Rib fillet radius = 0.25 mm

Rib root thickness =

Distance between two ribs = 2*t

Disgninf of both ribs by following same considerations

8. Rib Root Thickness Analysis-

Rib root thickness should be nearly equaly to base thickness if rib thickness is more then chancess of sink in part which causing quality issues. In our case rib root thickness is 2.68 mm which is nearly equal to base thickness.

8. Creating Screw Boss -

Design conideration for screw boss -

9. Different views for final part -

Draft Analysis on final part -

Conclusion - Hence we created a design features like ribs and screw bosses succesfully.
