Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
Screw boss:
Boss features are commonly found in injection molding designs. They are used to aid in the assembly of molded parts by providing a channel for a screw. Designing plastic screw bosses is fairly straightforward but there are a few considerations to ensure a strong connection between parts and mitigate cosmetic defects.
Sketches used to create the screw boss

The first sketch used to make the screw hole

Draft for 0.5 degree angle

Rib for screw boss

Draft

Draft analysis for screw boss. We can see that the minimum draft angle is 0.5 degree

The created screw boss assembled with the coin holder body.

The fillets were applied with 0.25mm of minimum radius.

Dog house:
Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic trim design. Dog houses are used as supporting feature. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps; locators etc. are mounded on them to increase their strength.
Sketches:

The basic surface for the dog house was crated then offseted to 1mm.

The surface then thicken with the value of 2mm.

To create the cut at the bottom the surface used to split the body.

The side core tooling axis was created in the Z direction

Then the face drafted with an angle of 0.5 degree.

The dog house part was draft analyzed with the minimum angle of 1.45 degree.
Then again it was analyzed with side core tooling axis.

Assembly.

Then the dog house part assembled with the main body.

Another screw boss placed on the dog house part.
The required fillets were applied to the edges.
