Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

HELLO SIR,

Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

Objective-

Create the boss and Dog House for the Centre console coin holder.

First of all, create the Class B & C surface and tolling axis of the model using the bisecting method.

After that,

SCREW BOSS

Boss features are commonly found in injection molding designs. They are used to aid in the assembly of molded parts by providing a channel for a screw. ... You will want a thick enough wall so that the screw can engage with the plastic without splitting the post.

General Guidelines for Bosses:

  • Draft - 0.5 degrees on walls of boss
  • Thickness - Typically 40%* of the nominal wall at the base.
  • Height to Diameter Ratio - 3:1
  • Radii - 0.25mm maximum radii.

PROCEDURE SCREW BOSS IN COIN HOLDER

Extract the bottom surface of the coin holder then, create a sketch

then, go to the pad command to increased 12mm

after that, go to the draft command to give 0.5mm

After that, I created a sketch to support screw boss

then, go to pad command to increase up to 10 mm.

then, we provide a draft to screw boss rib and then to trim the unwanted part.

PROCEDURE SCREW BOSS IN COIN HOLDER

first of all, extract the surface and, create a sketch

then go to sweep command to do the operation

then, go to trim command to trim the unwanted surface

go to thicken command to provide 2 mm

after that, provide a 0.5-degree draft

then we provide fillet and the dog house is complete

then, I create the tooling direction of the(dog house) side core

DRAFT ANALYSIS OF SCREW BOSS, DOG HOUSE

The draft is performed for easy ejection of the plastic component during the process of injection molding

  • First, we have to customize the view parameter, I select the materials option, and go to the draft analysis command it will appear on the screen.
  • press the compass on the main tooling direction placed in the tooling axis and lock it.
  • set the angle & color as per the requirement

The Draft analysis is taken along the y-axis, This clearly shows us that, the tooling direction clears all faces in the screw boss & dog house at 0.45 degrees.

Draft Analysis is done along z-direction, the tooling axis clears all faces in its direction the given draft is 1.5 degrees.
