Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

*Creating Screw Boss & Dog House for Centre Console Coin Holder.

Given PartBody:

ScrewBoss:

Screw Bosses are components which are present at the B-Surface. They attach to other components with the help of screw bosses.

They are commonly found on injection molded components. They are used to aid in the assembly of molded parts by providing a channel for a screw.

Creation of Screw Boss:

Step-1:

Extract the face on which we place the Screw Boss & Untrim it.

Insert a Geometrical Set & do the screw Sketch on it.

Step-2:

  • Pad the Sketch till the 12mm.
  • Draft the inside & outside faces to tooling direction for 0.5 degrees.
  • Give edgefillets for all faces for 0.25mm.

Step-3:

  • Take a Sketch to create coin holder to screw boss.
  • And pad it to 10mm.
  • Make draft angles to all faces for 0.5degrees with the refrence of tooling axis.

Step-4:

Trim the coinholder with Screw boss and remove the faces which are unecessary and assemble it with PartBody.

Dog House:

The Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic design. Doghouses are used as supporting features. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps; locators supported by the doh houde. and dog house are mounded on them to increase their strength. Dog houses are subjected to draft analysis to prevent breakage of the component during ejection from mould cavity. Dog house and other engineering components are built on B-surface.

Creation of Dog House:

Step-1:

  • Extract the face on which the dog house has to be present on and take mid point to it.
  • Take a sketch of dog house on it.
  • Sweep the sketch along with the draft direction of 0.5 degrees. Take an offset of extract for 2mm.

Step-2:

Create the solid body of the dog house by doing thickening to the surface.

Step-3:

Do the draft analysis to the dog house with the reference to the side tooling axis.

Step-4:

Assemble the dog house to the PartBody & perform the draft analysis to it.
