Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1
Attachment Feature Creation For Coin Holder
Aim:-
- To create Rib for centre console coin holder considering design rule.
Objective:-
- The main purpose of the given challenge was to create RIB for the Class B surface ,Class C surface with the given Class A surface and performing the draft analysis by creating tooling axis of the plastic component by taking thickness 2.5mm to the surface.
Rib rule design:-
1.THICKNESS (W):
Rib thickness at base should be 0.4 or 0.5 times the wall thickness. The minimum tip thickness of rib is 0.78 mm. Very thin rib results in poor mold filling ability.
W=0.4* t mm
2. FILLET RADIUS:
Optimal fillet radius is 0.25 mm.
3. HEIGHT:
Rib height should be 5 times the wall thickness.
4. ROOT THICKNESS:
The root thickness has to be greater than the equal to wall thickness.
5.LOCATION:
Ribs can be spaced with each other based on height/width ratio.
6.DRAFT:
The minimum draft for ribs ie 0.5 degrees.
RIBS DESIGN:-
1.Importing the coin holder component into CATIA interface.
2.Extract the surface on which the ribs is to be designed.
3.Draw a line and extrude it to create a surface.
4.Inset a new body.
5.Thicken the surface by 1mm.
From design rule,
W=0.4* t
=0.4* 2.5
=1mm
6. Chang the extruded height to 12.5mm
From design rule,
H=5*2.5
=5*2.5
= 12.5mm
7.Draft is given of about 0.5 degrees.
From design rule,
The minimum draft angle for ribs is +/- 0.5 degrees.
8.All the edges are given 0.25mm maximum fillet radius.
9.Rib root thickness is 2.5mm.
10.New creating another rib spaced at 6mm.

Conclusion:-
- We sucessfully completed rib design on the coin holder box.
