Week 9:- 2D Detailing Challenge
Week 9:- 2D Detailing Challenge-1
Q1. What are the Drawing templates?
A drawing template file is a drawing file with its specifies styles, settings, and layouts in a drawing, including title blocks as presented in the below figure. The drawing Templets are used to create standards drawing based on customer specifications. Drawing Templets are formats for detailing various sections or units used in designing. There are a variety of details available on the templets that are useful for production processes such as machining finish, tolerance, surface treatment, material name, parts named, of the assemblies, and so on. Preparing drawing templets at the start of a project can help us save time because these templets can be utilised as a starter model for detailing different elements. Drawing templets also provide information on the angle of projection to be used and the perspectives to be considered while sealing the drawing according to the part or unit.

Q2. What do you understand by Angle of projection?
A 2D projection is a two-dimensional image located in the 2D window, obtained by projecting a 3D model or its selected portion on the specified plane. Angle of projection is essentially the view format for orthogonal views of assemblies or parts. The first and third projection angles are the most commonly utilised in any industry. Understanding the projection angle aids in deriving the real image of the 2D drawing.

Q3.What is the First angle & Third angle projection? And why can't we use the 2nd and 4th angle of projection?
First Angle Projection
- It is videly used in india and european country
- In this projection object is assumed to be positioned in the first quadrant
- The object is assumed to be positioned in between the projection planes and the observer, Plane-object -observer.
- The views are obtained by projecting the images on the respective planes.

Third Angle Projection
- It is widely used in US and Austrailia
- Here the object is assumed to be in the third quadrant ie the object behind the vertical plane and below the horizontal plane.
- In this projection technique placing the object in the third quadrant puts the projection planes between the viewer and the object, object-plane-observer.

There are total four quadrants system. We position an object in the first quadrant for the first angle projection system, an object in the second quadrant for the second angle projection system, and so on. The Vertical plane (VP) is located between the object and the observer in the second quadrant. As a result, the front view of the object will be vertical, while the top view will be horizontal. When the horizontal plane is rotated 90 degrees clockwise, the top and front perspectives will overlap, according to the projection rule. When the object is positioned in the fourth quadrant, both the top and front views will overlap. As a result, fourth angle projection is also avoided. Overlapping projection views create confusion in the drawing. Therefore 2nd angle projection system is not used.
Q4.What is GD&T? What are the benefits of GD&T?
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance is a language of symbol and standard communication between entities working together to produce part/components. By depending on your knowledge around have to create a good structure of GD &T you will improve communication with your machine shop and ensure everyone involved is speaking the same language.
The Benefits of the GD&T are:-
- A standardised design language all over the country.
- A clear and precise way for the customers' supplies and production teams to communicate.
- A method for calculating the worst-case mating limits.
- Production and inspection processes are repeatable.
- Assemblies are assured of qualified production parts.
Q5.Explain all the symbols used in GD&T?
Symbols of Geometric characteristics are what most often come to mind when people think about GD & T these are a total of fourteen GD & T characteristics and the symbols. Most frequently used GD&T symbles are presented in the below table.

Form Tolerance - Control the Shape of features and often used as a refinement of size.
Orientation Tolerance - Control the tilt of a feature and are always associated with basic angle dimensions often used as a refinement to locations. If applied to surfaces orientation tolerance also control the form
Location Torenece - Comtrol location is always associated with basic linear dimensions Position locates and orientation the median plane of the axis of features of size. Profile locates features surfaces. The profile is the most powerful characteristic of all and also controls orientation and form.
