Week 8 Worm Gear Challenge
AIM:
Perform a Transient Structural Analysis on a worm gear assembly Using Ansys Workbench.
OBJECTIVE:
Perform a transient structural analysis on a worm gear assembly. For the academic version, I Made the gear by half so as to bring the model within limits. Rotate the worm so as to get to almost end of the half cut and get results for Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and the total deformation in the model.
GIVEN MODEL:
*Given Worm gear assembly is show in below figure.

*Above given geometry has more bodies and faces than academic version limit.
*Cut the geometry into half to reduce the number of faces in space claim.
*Creat a plane that divides the geometry into two parts and then use body split option to separate the geometry.
*use delete option to delete unwanted half part.

PROCEDURE:
i. Material:
Assign the material as structural steel for both the cases by, Selecting the Engineering data >> Edit >> Engineering data sources >> General Materials >> Structural steel.
*Properties of the structural steel is shown in below.

*After Assigning the material close the engineering data and open new space claim to make the required designs.
*Once geometry is imported from the space claim then open the model and eidt the geometry in Mechanical moduler.
*Assign the Contacts and targets according to the design model with contact type is Frictional, behavour is sysmmetric, Augmente Lagrange Formulation.

iv. Mesh:

v. Mesh Parameters:

*Create two revolute joints for two gears and assign joint loads.
*After that Give all analysis setting in steps of time.
vi. Analysis Settings:

RESULTS:
EQUIVALENT (VON-MISES) STRESS (Mpa) :
MAX: 2825.1 and MIN: 8.7536E-9

TOTAL DEFORMATION (mm) :
MAX: 14.82 and MIN: 0

EQUIVALENT ELASTIC STRAIN:
MAX:0.018341 and MIN:8.4146E-14
