Week 8 - Universal Joint
Title: Transient Structural analysis on Double universal joint with spring.
Objective:
For this challenge, you will have to perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials: Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy. The three materials must be used on the joint with the springs alone. Use a refined mesh if possible for the academic license. You need to obtain the Equivalent stress and total deformation for all the three cases and compare them.
Case setup:
Material:
Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy are the materials used on the joint with the springs alone in 3 cases respectively and the other components are assigned with structural steel.
Contacts:
Contacts are not given importance in this case study.
Joints:
1.Fixed joint on spring bottom Face

2.Revolute joint ground to body for component 1

3.Revolute joint Ground to universal joint with spring

4. Revolute joint Body-Body for all 8 pin joints

Meshing:
Adaptive meshing is done with mesh size of 4mm
No of nodes are 14975 and No of elements are 7288 in all three cases.

Analysis settings:
In this analysis we are using 5 steps and all the steps have same settings.

Joint Load:
Rotation is given to Component 1 as input.

Results of Case-1 with Structural steel:

Results of Case-2 with Stainless steel:

Results of Case-3 with Titanium Alloy:

Conclusion:
Tabulate the results below as per simulation:
| Case | Max.equivalent stress | Total Deformation |
| Structural steel | 1464.2 | 38.637 |
| Stainless steel | 1418.2 | 38.637 |
| Titanium Alloy | 719.43 | 38.637 |
1.Maximum equivalent stress induced is more in Structural steel ( 1464.2 Mpa ) and Low in Titanium Alloy ( 719.43 Mpa ). It is observed that Max equivalent stress is almost same for structural steel and stainless steel.
2.Total deformation is same in all three cases.
