Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
1. Objective:
This challange makes us know which design is well as per the results of analysis as well as manufacturing point of view. we can directly know many results with the simulation like stress generated at different places on plates and know the fracture point, factor of safty, Deformation at different places and many more.
2.Deformation and Stress results:
- Plate with one hole:
Max deformation: 0.00027482 mm
Max von stress : 0.5997 Mpa
- Plate with 3 holes:
Max deformation: 0.00029707 mm
Max von stress : 0.58428 Mpa
Deformations for two are quite small and approx same.
Von stress are large for Plate with one hole than plate with 3 holes.
3.Selection of Design from the analysis point of view:
Plate with 3 holes can be selected from analysis point of view, as the maximum induced stress generated is less complared to plate with one hole and deformation of two cases are very small and approx same. Plate with 3 holes has one more advantage, its mass is less compared to plate with one hole by 0.4 kgs.
4.Selection of Design from the Manufacturing point of view:
Plate with one hole can be selected from Manufacturing point of view, as 2 dies are required for punching operation so the installation cost will be high. But it depends on number of components to be produced.
