Week 8- Moving zones approach in Fluent

Aim: To simulate moving zones approach in Ansys Fluent.

Objective: Simulate rotary motion for the given geometry and plot velocity profile of the fluid motion.

Theory:

There are two types of fluid flow motions.

1. Rectilinear

2. Rotary

Under Rotary fluid flow motion, there are two approaches,

1. Moving reference frame.

2. moving mesh approach.

Difference between Moving reference frame and Mesh Approach,

1. Frame in motion 1. Mesh in motion.

2. Mesh topology remain same 2. Mesh topology changes with time.

3. No change in volume control 3. Volume control changes with time.

4. Steady phenomenion 4. Unsteady phenomenion

5. unsteadyness is not improved. 5. Unsteadyness is improved.

Procedure:

1. Import the given mesh file in Ansys Fluent.

2. General Settings.

3. Viscous model settings.

4. Fluid-Air

5. Rotating zone setting.

6. Solution Methods - Coupled.

7. Solution Controls.

8. Residual setting.

9. Contour - Velocity

10. Contour - Pressure

Results:

1. Velocity Magnititude:

2. Static Pressure:

Conslusion:

Moving reference frame was simulated to the given mesh file.
