Week - 8 - Morphing

AIM: To implement the morphing techniques on given models. Perform morphing for the Model-2 and Increase the Height of the Dog houses and Ribs. (Refer Red annotations in the below image to understand what are Dog houses and Ribs)

PROCEDURE:

1) Import the given models.

2) Use topo tool to create geometric connections.

3) Check for geometrical errors. If found any rectify them until no errors are found.

4) Switching to morphing module to perform morphing operation.

5) Create morph boxes for the parts using Boxes>Geometry tool for both models.

6) Then use the move tool to translate the control points of the morph boxes.

7) After moving the control points to the desired location delete the morph boxes using the delete tool from morphing module.

CONCLUSION AND LEARNING OUTCOME:

1) Morphed the given models.

2) Learnt how to use morphing tools.

DISCUSSION ON MORPHING APPLICATIONS:

1) Morphing is used to modify the existing designs as per the requirement of the designer or to change the structure of the model to reduce the failures of design.

2) It is used to change the structure of the component or model subtly so it doesn't fail the quality criteria of the designer.

3) It is used to enlarge or reduce the existing FEA structure to create a new structure based on the parent structure. For eg. some rears of hatchbacks such as Tiago, swift,. are morphed to create a boot for the sedan model of that hatchback such as Zest, Dzire.

4) Morphing is also used in aviation industry to change the aerodynamics of the wings, nose and fuselage as per the requirement of the engineering team to get the optimum results.
