Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

Objective:

• To Create the Core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel component.

DESCRIPTION:

CREATING TOOLING AXIS -

The Tooling Direction is basically the direction about which that the mold pulls apart. The mold is built in two halves, basically a Cavity & Core. The Core pulls apart from the Cavity about a prticular axis or the Tooling Direction. Tooling Axis consists particular draft angle.

• Opened the previously designed Switch Bezel.CATpart part file.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

The Draft Analysis command enables you to detect if the part you designed will be easily removed during molding process. This type of analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed parameter where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, with respect to specified values.

• The draft analysis is complete.

PARTING SURFACE

• Generally injection mold has two major parts, the movable half and the fixed half, during the injecction molding process, these two halves are clamped tightly from a sealed hollow to avoid the molten metal flow leakage and maintains certain holding pressure, the pressed surface are called parting surface , usually parting surface are the biggest projection outline of the part.

PARTING LINE

• A parting line is an important part of molded products.
• It is the line of separation b/w where two halves of a mold meet.
• It manifests itself on injection molded parts as a line that runs the entire perimeter along the part.
• In most parts, it is just a line that runs straight down the middle.

CORE DESIGN

• Core - A impression of the mold that goes inside a cavity to form the interior of a hollow part. it is used to make caity in part.

CAVITY DESIGN

• A term used to describe a mold created by mating A-side and B-side mold halves. it is negative impression of the part.
