Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

METHEDOLOGY-

AIM

To make a core and cavity any analysis drafting given switch bezel.

INTRODUCTION:

CATIA:

It means Computer-Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application.  It is computer aided designing software. This is software which is used to design 3D models with different workbenches.

   CLASS A SURFACE:

It is surface which is made by the designer. It is aesthetic surface and usable outside futures are on this surface.

  CLASS B SURFACE:

It is bottom side surface of class A surface. It is made by class A surface. It is formed with thickness distance from class A surface. This class b surface used as parting surface.

  CLASS C SURFACE:

It joins the both class A and class B surfaces. This surface is equal to the thickness of the component.

TOOLING AXIS:

  • Class A surface or part is used to manually analysis which is best for tooling and create the axis perpendicular to the product. It is called tooling axis. Mould is open and closed by this axis.

DRAFTING ANALYSIS:

Determine the drafting angle of product is called drafting analysis. It is analysis different portion of part.

MOLD:

Mould contains core and cavity. Mould is used to produce the products.

CORE:

Core is projected part of mould. It is fixed in stationary plate part of machine.

CAVITY:

Cavity is depression part of mould. It is fixed in movable plate of mould.

PARTING LINE:

Core and cavity meeting line is called parting line. Parting line is formed outside part of B surface of product.

PARTING SURFACE:

Core and cavity meeting surface is called parting surface. It is B surface of product.

TOOLS:

  1. Drafting analysis:

It is used to analysis the drafting angle of product.

  1. Sketch:

This tool used to create drawing work bench and drawing.

  1. Trim:

This tool is used to cut and eliminate the unwanted surface.

  1. Extrapolated:

This tool is used to increase the length of surface or area with the help of different option.

  1. Boundary:

It is used to form the boundary lines on opened surface.

  1. Join:

It is used to join the separate surfaces and create the single surface.

  1. Close (Part command)

It is used to create the solid part from closed hollow part.

  1. Extrude surface:

It is used to create 3D surface from 2D sketch in vertical direction.

  1. Split:

It is used to cut the surface with the help of another surface as cutting tool.

  1. Boundary:

It is used to create the boundary line from opened surface.

  1. Intersecting line:

It is used to create a line which is created from intersecting portion of two surfaces.

  1. Translate Body:

It is used to translate the bodies at required distances.

TOOLING AXIS-

TOOLING AXIS CREATION:

  • First create the class A surface and manually analysis and fix the direction of tooling.
  • There are three walls in this part. So, we can take walls and create the tooling axis. Carefully watch and take this axis with the help of all types of views.
  • First create the point on the base surface. Then create two sketches. In the first sketch two opposite wall used to create the intersecting profile and it is used draw two line on wall profile. Same procedure in another side wall. We have only one wall. So, we take one wall profile and draw line with some angle.
  • Then the both lines are used to create a bisecting line in tooling direction.
  • Change some appearance to this line like thickness, colour, dot lines. Finally, it is called tooling axis. It is published for frequent uses.

DARFT ANALYSIS-

DRAFTING ANALYSIS:

  • Go to insert < analysis< feature draft analysis.
  • Compass is fixed on the tooling axis.
  • Then we click on the surface it showing different colour. This colour is used to analysis the drafting value of surface with the help of analysis table.
  • In this surface fully green colour by means which drafting value is grater then 2.7deg. We also edit the table and colour to analysis the different drafting value.

CORE DESIGN-

  1. CORE:
  • First extrapolated class A surface and trim with class C surface.
  • Then class B surface is trimmed with class AC surfaces.
  • Draw rectangle and extruded on the top side.
  • Trim bottom side and filled top side and join
  • Then change solid body by close tool. Finally, we got core of mould.

CAVITY DESIGN-

  1. CAVITY:
  • Unhide class B surface and drawn rectangle used to extrude the rectangle
  • Then trim the top side the extruded surface and class B surface.
  • Filled bottom side and join all surfaces
  • Convert solid body by close tool. Finally, we got cavity of mould
  1. PARTING SURFACE:
  • In core design ABC trimmed surface is parting surface.
  • Core and cavity are meet in this portion.

  1. PARTING LINE:
  • Intersecting line tool is used to create the line from class B surface and class C intersecting portion.
  • Core and cavity are close and create this line.
