Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

REPORT

ABSTRACT: In this challenge I used the inhertitance and then I started the next phase of development. I used the earlier Switch Bezel design which is designed by me and take it as a reference and designed Core and cavity block for it. I also used the earlier results of the report. In this challenge for more accuracy I used draft analysis again. In this time also I received the same results and conclusion which I received from earlier draft analysis results.

INTRODUCTION: In this challenge my major motive is to design core and cavity for which our end product is a SWITCH BEZEL. In this challenge core and cavity are two critical component of the injection moulding. In this challenge I designed thetwo major block with proper measurements so that during the process of injection moulding we get a proper switch bezel with accurate measurements. I also designed parting surface and parting line for the core and cavity on the already existed switch bezel.

METHODOLOGY: I started with creating tooling axis and intersection of the switch bezel.

After that I created the Core Block for the switch bezel by creating a proper sketch on the required plane. I used to extrude it and and then after closing the surface from all directions I used close surface commnads in the part workbench of CATIA V5.

After that to make it clear and visible I used the core surface intersection in the switch bezel to make it distinctive.

Then I shifted to the next phase of developing a cavity surface block for the switch bezel. In the cavity surface block I followed the same approach as core block as I extruded the required surfaces and packed it through the other surfaces and at last I used close surface commnads in part work bench to make it a solid body.

After that I used the intersection on the switch bezel surface for make it more clear and distinctive for the other user who approach this core and cavity design.

SUPPORTING ELEMENTS:

In this design the major supporting elements are:

1. Parting Surface

2. Parting Line

RESULTS:

The final results of creating this core cavity block can be obtained by using draft analysis methods. In this challenge I used draft analysis on the switch bezel final surface to obtain the results.

The final result we obtained is in the form of draft angle is degree is 2.21 degree.
