Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design
*Creating Core & Cavity Blocks for a PartBody.
Core Block:
Core Block is a block which is present below the plastic component which acts as a mold to the component. It is a fixed block in the injection molding machine which has ejecting system.
Cavity Block:
Cavity Block is a block which presents at the top of the component and also acts as mold to the component. The movable half of the injection molding machine is the Cavity Half.
Parting Surface:
Parting Surface is the surface where the core meets the cavity to form a required shape for a component.
Parting Line:
The parting line of a component acts as a border to the inside and outside of the component. The location of the parting line indicates which of the die is cover and which is considered as the ejector.
Given PartBody:

Creation of Parting Surface and Parting Line:
Step-1:
Extract the boundary of the Class-A and Extrapolate it.

Step-2:
Trim Class-B & Class-C Surfaces. And also the trim the result component with extrtapolated surface and make it as parting surface wiht the component area.

Step-3:
Split the parting surface with component and make that as your main Parting Surface.

Step-4:
Make an intersection to the component and parting surface & make that as your parting line.

Creation of Core Block:
Step-1:
Take a sketch to your component for which the component should be inside of its extrude. For which it gonna act as the Core & Cavity Block.

Step-2:
- trim the extrude with parting surface of the component area with the extrude make sure that most of the component should be in core side.
- fill the open area and make that as your core block.
- Take the intersection of the block for reference.
- Make that as a solid body in part design.

Intersection:

Creation of Cavity Block :
Trim the extruded surface with the Class-B and make that component as your Cavity block surface. Make that component as a solid body by doing closed surface.
