Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design
Ex-01:
Aim:
To create a switch Bezel using class A,B and C surfaces, creating draft analysis and providing the core and cavity blocks of it.
Tools Used:
- Line
- Point
- Intersect
- Extrapolate
- Edge Fillets
- Trim
- Split
- Join
- Draft Analysis
- Close Surface
Draft analysis:
- Normally on the injection molding the parts which are getting ejected will have some defects and very difficult to remove from the cavity, So to make easier and reduce the defects this draft analysis is used.

- The above pic shows that the parts on the cavity with normal in shape and another is drafted.
- Basically the plastic components should be drafted at 3deg and for a sheetmetal components the draft angle should be 7 deg.

Tooling Axis:
- This axis represent the tooling direction of the mould part.so that the part can travel on the axis to achieve the draft angle.

- The above fig orange line represented as tooling axis by bisecting the two lines with respect to the surfaces the tooling axis will be provided.
- Creating the tooling axis we need to intersect the class A surface.

- Create a intersection on the side of class A surface.

- Bisect these two lines and the tooling axis will be created.

Procedure:
- After creating the Tooling axis extract the surfaces to create Class B surface and trim the excess surface that are intersecting with Class A surfaces and offset it to 2.5mm and provide edge fillets accordingly.

- Create a Class C surface by extracting the boundry of the class A surface and extrapolate to certain length and sweep it to 3 deg and join with Class A surface.

- Trim the Class A,B and C surfaces to get closed surfaces and join them into single part.

- Convert these surface into solid body by close surface option.

Draft analysis of switch Bezel:

Core Block:
- Create a parting surface for creating the core and cavity blocks,Extract the class B surface and trim it with class A surface

- Create a rectangular sketch and extrude it to certain length and ensure it covers the surfaces and trim it with class A and B surfaces.

Cavity Block:
- Repeat the same steps of core Block and trim it in opposite direction.
- Ensure while Extruding provide the draft tooling axis.

Parting Line:
- This line is to split the part from the die and upto that boundry is the main surface area required. To create a parting line extract the boundry of parting surface and split it with it.

- Finally Make this core and cavity block as solid part and provide the translate option to ensure the working function of the blocks.
