Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Coin Holder Design

AIM :COIN HOLDER DESIGN USING CLASS A SURFACE with 2.5 mm thickness.

DESCRIPTION : COIN HOLDER PART BODY USING TOOLING AXIS & DRAFT ANALYSIS CREATING.

To make the part to an angle dirtection. so that the part model can be easily removed from the model cavity-core.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

IT is a analysis of a plastic component to determine weather the component is actually feasible to manufacture or not mainly used for thicken the surface.at certain angle (3deg)

REQUIREMENT FOR DRAFT ANALYSIS

solid body

main tooling direction

select material mode

TOOLING AXIS CREATION

Check the correct direction that we can create the line on the class a surface

Extract the bottom surface of the class a surface & create the point on it using on surface otion & value is zero . create the line through z axis with point referance .the obtained line is tooling axis.thicken it & change the colour for easily visible.

after the creation of the tooling axis create the plane of yz referance * point ok

intersect the classa surface in to two parts

create the point to point line both side of the dummy tooling axis.with that two line create the bysecting line by selecting two line .that is the main tooling axis for draft analysis.

TOOLING AXIS BYSECTION METHOD .The tooling axis is created only in bisection methiod because the draft analysis should perform clearly with 3 deg on the required direction .it is created by choosing the clearance of complete part and then the tooling axis is created.the part is intersected and the point to point lines are created by the two line the bysection line is created.that is the actual tooling axis.

STEPS FOR DRAFT ANALYSIS

  • switch to material mode
  • activate feature draft analysis
  • place the compass on main tooling direction
  • activate compass logo 7 slightly move the compass over MTD line.
  • set the angle & colour as per the requirement

GREEN- area clear in main tooling

RED- area have no draft in main tooling

BLUE- area undercut in main tooling

  • click on bodu on which draft analysis to be done
  • ckeck a surface feasibility.

TYPES OF DRAFT ANALYSIS

catia v5 has two types of draft analysis

1. Quick analysis

2. Full analysis

DRAFT ANALYSIS- perform on class A surface 7 in part model as shown in the below images

TOOLING AXIS- it is used to perform the draft analysis to apply the compass on it to perform the draft analysis on z direction. & also the tooling axis is used as referance element in sweep command so that the sweep is obtained at 3 deg angle.as per the OEM requirement

MY QUESTION TO THE CLASS A SURFACE DESIGNER the blue surface inside the part model is 0 deg as measured with running point analysis.my sugession is to design the class a surface side walls at an able of 3deg so that the draft analysis performed clearly it is in 90 deg so that the draft analysis is not clearing on that . so thet ensure that while designing the class A sutface design it properly at 3 deg angle.
