Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Bumper

BUMPER DESIGN

OBJECTIVE:

To create the Bumper Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

GIVEN:

Input,

Thickness of the above Bumper Plastic component is 3mm.

TOOL USED: CATIA V5

STAGE_1: TOOLING AXIS CREATION

Tooling direction is main consideration for plastic part and the mold parts because it defines the movement of the mold part and possibility of plastic part come out from the mold part. And it also helps to define the two halves of the plastic componet like core and cavity parts.

By creating the Tooling Axis for the given Class-A of Bumper initially check the possibilities in appropriate direction along with the Class-A. From this given Class-A surface along X-direction of itself creating Tooling Axis which is easiar to creat this plastic component. And the follwing are,

By using of Line definition(Point - Direction).

STAGE_2: DRAFT ANALYSIS FOR CLASS-A_BUMPER

By using the Feature Draft Analysis by the defined Main tooling Axis thus the following results are,

Consider the minimum Draft angle of the Plastic component becomes 3 deg on itself.

STAGE_3: SURFACE MODELING OF BUMPER

STEP_1: CLASS-B SURFACE CREATION

From this B-side offset creation which will results like the above and it have some of patches on itself. By the followings are used to creates the resolve the patches,

1.GRILL AREA

Consider the Grill area we have some patches on there side and it can be solved by the following operations are,

By using of Multiple Extract Definition.

By using of Multiple Extract Definition in the complementary mode of slection may results the following,(invert slection).

By using of Extrapolate Definition.

By using of Trim Definition.

By using of Edge Fillet Definition.

2.NAME BOARD AREA

In this name board area patches also solve as same above operations and then by using of Edge Fillet Definition in apropriate radius.

3.TOP EDGES

By using of Multiple Extract Definition in the complementary mode of slection may results the following,(invert slection).

By using of Extrapolate Definition.

By using of Trim Definition.

STEP_2: CLASS-C SURFACE CREATION

In this Bumper Plastic Component C-surface creation has much more operations are used to create Class-C and the some of its following are shown below,

By using of Boundary definition.

By using of Swept Surface Definition.

By using of Multi-Ssection surface Definition.

By using of Extrapolate Definition.

By using of Extrapolate Definition.

By using of Trim Definition.

STEP_3: JOIN CLASS-A & C

By using of Join definition.

STEP_4: FINAL TRIMS

By using this following Extrapolate definition which will results to helpd following trimming operation.

By using of Trim definition. Final trim of Bumper's B-side with the Class A & C(joined).

In this final stage of Join operation with the marging tolerance of 0.001 has shows off a single open boundary on the surfaceing on itself so here the the marging tolarance has litle bit of gets modified like the following which will results to obtain the fully joined surface of the Final bumper Surface(fully cosled).

STAGE_4: BUMPER PART BODY

By using of CloseSurface Definition thus the Surface part has becomes Solid Part body.

STAGE_5: DRAFT ANALYSIS BUMPER PLASTIC COMPONENT

CONCLUSION:

Thus the Base Bracket Plastic component through the given Class-A surface to be done by using CATIA V5.

Tooling axis & the Draft anlysis for the given Class-A Surface to be completed.

Bumper Surface CATPart model to be done with the thickness of 3mm. And

The Draft analysis on the model to be completed.
