Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Coin Holder Design

AIM:
Create the Coin Holder Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

Take the Thickness of the component to be 2.5 mm.

CHALLENGE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Tree Structure
    • Ensure Proper Tree Structure
    • Geometrical sets should have a proper name based on the sketches present inside of it
    • All the sketches should be created under the Geometrical set
    • Use the Close Surface feature to make a solid body from the surface.
    • Publications: Use the publication option and publish the below
      • Tooling Axis
      • Class A, B, and C surface
  • Report
    • A detailed report should be done explaining the draft analysis and the tooling axis creation.
    • An explanation should be given on the way of creating the tooling axis, particularly the Bisecting method

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

The major consideration of Draft analysis is whether a sufficient draft angle is provided on the component. Components while designing should be provided with a considerable amount of draft angle depending on the manufacturing consideration. For plastic components, we provide a draft angle of 3 degrees. But for Automotive sheet metal parts, it will be from 7 degrees or more.

TOOLING AXIS CREATION:

The direction in which the mold or core and cavity open is the tooling axis. With the help of the tooling axis created along the X-axis and the Y-axis, these tooling axes are used for creating by a bisection method.

Where the two lines and point will be selected as inputs.

FINAL DRAFT ANALYSIS:

The color bar in the draft analysis visualizes the green and red colors. The surface draft angle greater than 3deg is highlighted with green color and the surface draft angle less than 0deg will be highlighted with red color. Based on the compass alignment with the tooling axis, the colors may be swapped by inversing the draft direction, we can get the proper analysis. We can change the color bar color coding as per our requirements by customizing the colors.
