Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Coin Holder Design

COIN HOLDER DESIGN

In this project, the given class A surface of coin holder is draft analysed and model is created using class B & C surface.

Draft analysis Methods:

There are basically Two Types of Draft analysis namely

  1. Dummy Tooling Axis: In this method, a line is created along either 1 of the axes (i.e., X, Y, Z). Then Draft analysis is performed along the Dummy Tooling Axis Created as shown in Fig.

A dummy tooling axis is created along Y axis for this Class A surface, the surface is Symmetric along Y direction and the tool clear along Y axis completely.

  1. Bisecting Method Tooling Axis: In this method, a Tooling axis is created based on the intersection profile generated along the particular Axis direction as shown.

Draft analysis along the Tooling axis:

Draft analysis is performed along the created tooling axis as shown.

From the draft analysis, it is confirmed that the Tool clears the Tooling axis. The draft angle of min 3 Deg of draft on class A surface is confirmed. Further class B & C surfaces are created.

Class B Surface:

Depending up on the class A surface, the complexity of class B surface differs. The commands used in are Extract, Untrim, Extrapolate. The extracted surfaces are offset to 2.5mm

Class C Surface:

In this the class C surface is created using Sweep Tool. For coin holder design, this surface is created perpendicular to the created tooling axis.

Join Class A, B, C Surface:

The Class A, B, & C surfaces are combined together using join command.

Solid Part Body Creation:

Using Close surface Definition command, the coin holder part body is created as shown.

Draft analysis on Coin Holder:

The Created part is checked for draft analysis along the tooling axis as shown. From the analysis, the Tool (Core and cavity) clears the Coin Holder. Also, the Thickness of 2.5mm is checked. Proper Feature Structure has to be followed, while creating the part model.
