Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 2 - Base Bracket Design

OBJECTIVE: This challenge intends to

  • Create a tooling axis and an initial draft analysis for the given Class-A surface
  • Create a B surface
  • C surface
  • Create a solid body
  • Finally, a draft analysis on the created a solid body.

Tooling Axis

The given component is checked in all directions (X, Y, and Z) to create the tooling axis in the best possible way. After analyzing the given class A surface, it was understood that Z-direction is the best to create a tooling axis. Because it eliminates the necessity of extra resources like side core. Here bisecting line method is used to create the tooling axis in the Z direction.

Initial draft analysis

Initial draft analysis is done for the given Class-A surface to know whether the decided tooling axis direction is feasible or not. And also to check whether the minimum draft angle (3 degrees) is maintained on all the surfaces or not. Based on the color indication it can understand that whether all the surfaces have maintained the minimum draft angle or not.

B Surface creation

B surface is the inner wall of the component. The B surface is created by taking the reference of the given surface (Class A). An offset of 2.5mm is used to generate the B surface.

C Surface creation

The C surface is the boundary of the component and also joins the class A and class B surfaces. Here to generate the C surface sweep command using draft angle is used.

Creating Solid body

Using all the above surfaces A, B, and C a closed surface is created, and then using the closed surface operation solid body is generated.
