Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover
Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover
Objective:
The main objective is to create the tooling axis for the given Fan Cover Part model meeting the requirements of the draft angle and perform the draft analysis on the model.
Description:
Creating Tooling Axis:
- Open the Given CAT part file in Catia V5 application.
- Checking Gaps between surfaces for that click on Join icon and click preview.
- Extract the boundary and disassemble the boundary.
- Find the Correct tooling axis where the material don't interfere with the tooling axis and all the elements can be created.
- Create an Axis system using at the centre of the Fan Cover.
- Intersect the X plane and Y plane with respect to the Class A Surface.
- Hide the Class A Surface and create point to point lines on the suspected drafts where the draft can interfere with the tooling axis.
- Creating a Bisecting Lines with the two lines and point to create a tooling axis of Tooling Clearing X Direction.
- Follow the above steps for Tooling clearing Y direction and assign these to geometric set.
- Now, Creating a bisecting line for the bisections from tooling clearing X direction line and tooling clearing Y direction in the direction of Z.
- Then the Tooling Axis is created for the component.
- And giving color to the component for identification and assigning it to geometrical set.
Publication:
- Publicationis done to the component and tooling axis to make it visible and navigate easily.
- To publish the component go to Tools tab, click on publications and select the tooling axis and Class A surface to publish.
- The seperate tree structure is formed under the main structure.
Draft Analysis:
- Before going to draft analysis, go to customized view parameter, click on under mesh and check material and click OK.
- Now for Draft analysis, Click Insert tab, then click on Analysis and finally click on Feature Draft Analysis.
- Use the Compass to define the draft direction.
- The component changes to green in indication of passing draft angle.
- Use running point to check the angle on the component.
- The draft analysis is complete.

Conclusion:
Finally, learned to analyse the component for draft and how to select tooling axis based on the component and how to publish the component using catia V5 application.
