Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Aim:

To create a Base bracket with thickness of 2.5mm, using the input surface given.

Design steps:

1). The input file contain a Class A surface, First the draft analysis for the class A surface need to be performed

For first dummy tooling axis needed to be created, for that a point is created at the centre of the circle and a line parallel to z axis is created

A plane (parallel to point) is inserted, surface intersecting to the plane is taken

Outer surface angle is important for tooling, So a line at that point is extended at both sides and bisected with point

The bisected line is the Tooling axis

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Draft analysis is taken and compass is placed on tooling axis, the draft angle of minimum of 3 deg is given and checked whether the surface is passing the test or not

The surface is passing the test, Green color indicates component can be manufacturable.

COMPONENT DESIGN

Since the surface passed the draft analysis it can be turned into thickened component,

1). Insert Geometrical set, rename as "base bracket". Insert another one as child of base brkt and rename as "Surface B" insert another geomertical set and rename as "Rib 1". Extract the rib surfaces and then Untrim and Extrapolate to 10 mm, Offset to 2.5mm.

2).Insert Geometrical set, rename as "Rib 2" and follow same procedure

3).Insert another geometrical set and rename as "Base surface". Extract the mid surface and Untrim, Offset to 2.5 mm.

4). Insert new geometrical set rename as "Final trim". Trim the surfaces not needed, Fillet R3 at the edges.

5). Unhide Class A surface, take Boundary and Sweep along tooling axis. Join the class A and class C surfaces.

6).Insert new geometrical set rename as "Final trim", Trim class A and class B.

7).Insert a new part body rename as "Base Brkt", by using closed surface to thicken the surface.
