Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

  • Report:-

Aim:- To create tooling axis and draft analysis

Introduction:- Tooling axis is axis along which component is ejected. Core also move along tooling axis. While draft analysis is used to check minimum draft presence on walls of the component to manufacture. Draft is slight inclination of surface with respct to tooling axis. It helps in easy ejection of part and speedy manufacturing process. Draft analysis ensures minimum requirement of draft. Colour coding is provided in draft analysis of part. Green zone lies for satisfying minimum draft requirement. While red zone denotes rejection according to draft analysis. Blue zone is reserved for back side of component that is possite side of tooling direction, it shows acceptance of component. Draft analysis needs to be carried out before CAE as it ensures easy manufacturing process.

Procedure:-

a. Create tooling axis:- Following are the steps involved in creating tooling axis

  1. Check continuity of given class-A
  2. Visual check for tooling axis and create dummy tooling axis
  3. Then according to slant surfaces of part project a plane on class-A using intersection command
  4. Then draw a line connecting vertex of slant surface projected curve on both sides of the part
  5. Then using those two lines create bisecting line, which can be consider as tooling axis unless surfaces of perpendicular direction gives the different
  6. Then look for another slant surfaces in perpendicular plane of dummy tooling axis
  7. And repeate above steps till creating bisecting line
  8. Using both bisecting lines in different plane we create another bisecting line which will be called as tooling axis

Conclusion:- Hence creation of tooling axis is done as stated above.
