Week 8:- 3D Finishing Challenge 2

Week-8 3D Finishing Challenge-2

Aim: Perform 3D finish and create rough locators for the assembly design.

As indicated in the diagram below, the 3D finish is the process by which a design is totally finished and ready for final simulation and 2D detailing. The nominality of each unit and hole is examined when the design is being finalised to guarantee that all pieces can be simply installed.Fasteners are implemented based on hole size, and standard color codes based on customer requirements for differentiate type of hole/part. The Sea green for a plain hole, yellow for a threaded hole, cream for a machined region, and blue for a dowel pin hole are used.

Checklist for 3D Finishing

⦁ Proper renaming of parts/ assemblies:

⦁ Nominality for a particular edge.

⦁ Hole concentricity & hole sizes:

⦁ Gaps checking between two units

⦁ Fasteners implementation.

First, the nominality of each units were checked using the two fixed faces shown in the figure below, and adjustments were made appropriately. If unit is with pin unit or only pin unit, the angle can only be modified, not the distance. Both the distance and the angle must be changed to nominal for the unit without a pin. Additional holes were drilled and appropriate fasteners were installed.

Different pin units and Swivel clamp unit.

Rough locators

Rough locators are used to locate workpieces in the automation process depicted in the following image. A rough locator is a component that guides the operator on where to place the car panel on the units. The use of rough locators increases precision and consistency. Rough locators are placed according to the angle of the respective panel, thus the part can only be loaded in a specific direction and orientation. In this case rough, the rough locators are provided to all five panel.

Full assembly, ready for the 2D detailing and processing.

Base unit with all required hole to place the different unit.

Conclusion

All units were given the necessary nominality, and all holes were formed on the clamp and base units, and fasteners were furnished accordingly.
